I am also a freelance story analyst with seven years of work experience in Los Angeles for major production companies, including Disney Pictures and Television, A Band Apart (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs), Village Roadshow (The Matrix trilogy), and many other companies. I have written development notes on such major motion pictures as Shanghai Knights, The Miracle, Open Range and Calendar Girls. I am, to my knowledge, the only member of the Editors/Story Analyst Guild (Union Local 700) living in the Midwest. I guest lecture on screenplay analysis to college and university film programs in the U.S. and U.K., and have also worked for hire as an analyst for the local McKnight Fellowship (organized through IFP/North).
I provide written constructive feedback on screenplays, treatments and outlines, exactly as I did for major studios and production companies. The feedback is about 2-3 pages in length (single-spaced) and critiques the premise, plot, characters, dialogue, writing style, and any other pertinent aspect. I give my professional opinion on what components of the screenplay are well constructed, what needs improvement, and how those improvements might be made.
If you prefer a back-and-forth exchange, I am also available for one-on-one consultations, in which I verbally give you the feedback I would have otherwise written in development notes. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions and present alternate ideas, and I may have questions for you regarding your underlying thoughts on the project.
My rates for story analysis are as follows:
Written development notes: $100
One-on-one consultation (1-2 hours): $100
Development notes and consultation: $150
If you like, you can hire me for development notes, and then anytime within six months have a consultation on the same project for $50. |
